I was pleasantly shocked on September 29, 2008 when the House of Representatives voted down the ridiculous “billionaire bailout bill.” I could not believe there were so many representatives with the backbone to vote “Nay.” Of course, it would have been too many if only one had cast a “Yay.” One who cast a “Yay” was our area jellyfish representative Mark Souder. What a “Yes-man” he is. This is just another example of Souder’s ridiculous pandering to George W. Bush; and his complete pretermitting of those he is suppose to represent.
Souder started his career in politics as either a liar or an ignorant buffoon. In 1994 he pledged allegiance to and ran on the principles of the “Contract with America” (a written promise from Republican candidates for congress to at least vote on several conservative issues) and this same contract was lauded as the reason for the Republican take-over of congress that year. Point 10 of the contract was the promise to vote for “THE CITIZEN LEGISLATURE ACT” which would have imposed term limits of 12 years for members of congress (six terms for representatives and two for senators). In 2006, when Souder’s 12 years were up he told the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette “I don’t feel it’s as compelling as before.” Now his is seeking his eighth term. Wonder what happened? Maybe he doesn’t feel it “as compelling as before” because he likes the power and prestige his position gives him. As Lord Acton (1834-1902) said “Power tends to corrupt…”
Souder is just one of the many lap-dogs of the Bush administration:
-Souder has supported every aspect of the Patriot Act and has voted to allow the federal government to spy on its citizens without warrants, thus violating our Fourth Amendment protection;
-He voted yes for a fence along our southern border but voted no on H.R. 661; which would have imposed stiffer fines for employers hiring illegal aliens, added new mandatory minimum sentences for immigrant smugglers, and mandated automatic detention and deportation for immigrants caught crossing the border illegally. Apparently he wants to keep people in and not out;
-He said “NO” when it came to requiring the military to follow its own regulations regarding the humane treatment of POW’s. Making someone think they are being tortured isn’t the same as actually torturing them;
-He thinks federal police agencies should be able to peer into your library borrowing history without obtaining a search warrant, which is yet another violation of the Fourth Amendment;
-He supported a constitutional amendment to ban desecrating the U.S. flag, which whether you like it or not is a 100% violation of our Freedom of Speech guaranteed by the First Amendment; not to mention personal property rights if the flag was purchased with personal money;
-He believes the federal government should step in and control decisions that should be left to families, i.e. the “Terri Schiavo incident;” and
-Now he thinks it is fine for the government to nationalize private businesses and fork over billions of tax dollars to CEO’s who have paid themselves exorbitant salaries, given themselves six digit bonuses and loaned money to people who couldn’t afford to pay it back.
Souder touted his support of term limits, but when it came right down to it, he reneged. When he was sworn into office he swore an oath to uphold the United States Constitution, on multiple occasions he voted for laws which completely violated the U.S. Constitution; so basically he lied under oath. Now he supports the nationalization of private enterprise, thus revealing his socialist underpinnings.
There are three candidates this year for Indiana’s Third Congressional District: Mark Souder, Republican; Mike Montagano, Democrat; and William Larson of the Libertarian Party.
If you want to vote for a lying, perjuring closet-socialist go ahead and vote for Souder. Why vote for another Democrat? Didn’t Souder replace Democrat Jill Long because people thought he would do better? How’s that workin’ out for ya? Try using the “lesser-of-two-evils” method now.
William Larson is the only choice left (http://wmlarsen.blogspot.com/). And you’re in luck if you want to support liberty, free-enterprise, paying lower and better managed taxes, letting big businesses cleanup their own messes and just plain old fashion common sense. Vote Third Party this election and tell the two big political parties you’re tired of them screwing up everything. Tell them it is about time to hand the reigns over to someone else for some real change in our government, not just “lip service” and the status quo.
