Hypocrisy and Illegal Immigrants
I don’t think people realize when I say I am a libertarian; I mean I am a lower-case ‘l’ libertarian. Though I have become quite disenfranchised with the Party, I still (for now) consider myself to also be a Libertarian (www.lp.org), with a capitol ‘L’. What does that mean? It means, as a libertarian, I am a full fledged anarchist. (Do yourself a favor and research this term/philosophy before you apply your preconceived, government indoctrinated definition to it.) I truly do want to see governments disbanded and mankind to live as free as possible. I want people to decide things for themselves, and the free-market of commerce to direct society; not power hungry, maniacal, miscreants. As long as people are not harming anyone else, what difference does it make what they do? Would I sell my body to be used in perverse manners? No. I wouldn’t make much money if I did anyway. Nevertheless, if someone else opts to do it—it’s their body, I should mind my own damn business. I choose to live life by the libertarian Non-aggression Axiom: Never initiate (or threaten) violence against another person or their property, and honor your contracts. (http://www.lewrockwell.com/block/block26.html) Also known as “The Golden Rule” or the “Ethic of Reciprocity.”

Time for me to fess up about something else—I can be a big hypocrite as well. Yep, that’s right, I am admitting it. I am a self professed anarchist, yet I work for a city government; how’s that for hypocrisy? I recently came to a new conclusion regarding an issue I had convinced myself was all wrapped up in my head; but in actuality I was only being hypocritical about it. Erstwhile I was someone who complained about illegal immigrants, wanted them shipped back to where they came from, and wanted to “protect our borders.” I must admit, in the back of my mind this did not mesh well with my anarchist views, but I tried to shrug-off those feelings. I have finally come to grips with something: how could borders be protected and how could someone be “illegal” if I want to do away with organized government? I always thought it to be a personal enigmatic paradox of mine, but it was just plain, old-fashion hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is something I should be use to from my organized religion days, but will likely spend a lifetime purging from myself.
I have decided that I cannot be against illegal aliens if I proclaim liberty for all mankind; the two ideals are not compatible. If I truly want freedom from oppressive government, shouldn’t I want that freedom extended to all people? Besides, since when has any government ever done anything right? Governments are always screwing-up something. Take the “Digital Converter Box Coupon” for example—what a fiasco. The government can’t even do coupons right, how could anyone expect it to secure a border? In the end any methods used to keep people out of the country would quite likely be used to keep people in as well; and what if I want to leave (more likely, when I want to leave…)? Putting a fence around the country would do nothing more than turn it into one gigantic gulag.
Take a lesson from history about wall building:
1. The Great Wall of China was built thousands of years ago, the Manchu were able to break through it and conquer the Ming Dynasty. The Wall is now a run down tourist attraction.
2. The Berlin Wall was built in 1961 and used to separate East (Communist) Germany from West (Allied managed) Germany. How did that one turn out?
3. How about Israel’s West Bank Wall? It is still under construction and expected to be over 400 miles long. Because of this wall Palestinians are unable to find work, receive food and medical supplies; and subsequently those who do not live in extreme poverty—are dead.
Do we really want a bunch of D.C. twits erecting a wall around us and “securing” the borders? Frankly, I will defend the borders of my own property and help others do the same if it is justified and they ask for it.
Here’s my new motto: un pour liberté, liberté pour un
(All for liberty, and liberty for all)
